Catalonia, European Region of Gastronomy 2016
Catalan gastronomy is part of the identity of Catalonia and is a differentiating feature and one of great tourist interest.
Catalan cuisine is more than an accumulation of delicious experiences; it has become a gastronomy model to be followed. The culinary world is interested in knowing what's cooking here in Catalonia. This can be seen thanks to the awards that Catalonia received as the European Region of Gastronomy 2016, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food through Prodeca and the Business and Enterprise Ministry , through the Catalan Tourist Board and many organizations in the field of food, agriculture and gastronomic tourism.
This distinction aimed to highlight the distinctive European food cultures, spreading education for healthy, sustainable eating, promoting gastronomic innovation and, in short, contributing to a better quality of life for people.
The Catalonia, European Region of Gastronomy 2016 also aimed to position local agri-food products as a unique exponent of the country and as the basis of a cuisine that adds its particular touch to our culture; positioning Catalonia thanks to its products and its cuisine and as a wine and gourmet food tourist destination.
